Is The Grass Greener On The Other Side Of The Wall?

One of the biggest issues going on over in the Middle East is the relationship between the Arab and Israeli worlds. Over here in the U.S. we are able to learn about the conflict through different mediums. These mediums either include horrific picures and details or include humor that is meant to get across the message in a lighter tone.

You can respond to this blog in either of the two ways:

1.) Describe a medium in which the conflict has been presented (cartoon, song, video) and post (an appropriate) link of that example.

OR

2.) Analyze which tone, direct and to the point or humor, you think is the most effective in getting the message across about what is happening.

  1. This cartoon describes the conflict between Arabs and Israelis through the two militant groups, the Hamas and Hezbollah.

  2. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict can be depicted through many media forms, cartoons being only one of the ways. This cartoon portrays the conflict through an Israeli man and a Palestinian man, who even after all the massive amounts of violence and destruction still cannot solve their differences.

  3. This cartoon shows the way the united states tries (and fails) to bring democracy into the middle east. i think it really portrays our involvement over there in a negative light, which does sort of support the popular opinion

  4. This political cartoon shows the Israeli wall constructed to keep the Palestinians out of their country and to "stop terrorist attacks." the UN official is just shown walking on by since the Palestinian suicide bombers are just "headed over there for work" http://www.science.co.il/arab-israeli-conflict/cartoons/lurie_israel_wall.jpg

  5. In my opinion, it is difficult to find a mainstream news source that focuses on the challenges of both Palestinians and Israelis. It is difficult to breathe in the same breath the struggles the opposing peoples are facing. Journalists, our first-hand witnesses attempt to explain the situation, but often there is a patriotic bias in US media sources. And, because the Big Six news stations dominate television, alternative news sources are not directly available to many Americans. But through the struggles of reporting and the public's acquired knowledge it is still important to relate for a final time to an incident or situation with humor. A cartoon can reiterate a US diplomatic decision in a way that can be accessible and understandable to the vast majority of viewers and readers.

  6. Israel is the spoiled brat of the middle east crying that it "wants more candies and shocolates grammama". It's always the victem whenever anything goes wrong. Like when the middle east was playing a big 'ol game of cricket and Israel hit the ball through Old Man Jenkins' window. Israel blamed it on Gaza and then proceeded to war crim the crap out of the Palestinians .

  7. In my opinio, I feel that the cartoonistic view of the middle east dos not show a serious enough side to the conflict. Most people who read the comics and see the pictures might think that the artist is not so much making a joke, but putting a more, less serious side to it. If those people were to look at the horrific videos and magazine about the conflict, they would realize that the problem is alot bigger than a cartoon. It really drills the idea of suffering into the hearts of many.

  8. This site shows you many cartoons involving the relationship between the Arab and Israeli worlds. The conflict and hate that are shown is disturbing just puts the message across and I believe that if that's what it takes to show us whats going on then this site is definitely the place to see them. http://www.tomgrossmedia.com/ArabCartoons.htm

  9. I think that the cartoon (humorous) type of media is very popular in the US, and gets across the broad point of the conflict. I feel that majority of people enjoy the humorous version of this conflict better because it's what we're used to seeing. There are many people who enjoy straight up knowing what the deal is and don't like to beat around the bush with cartoons or videos. Overall, I think the humorous take on these types of conflicts are enjoyed more, but are less useful in the long run.

  10. Humor is the best way to deal with any problem, and the Middle East is no exception.

I love the pro-Israeli cartoons, just because the suicide bombers are hilarious.
